Learn About Our History

Created for Service

Formed in 2005 as a nonprofit organization located in the Historic Centennial Hill district.

"Committed to a brighter future for families, children and communities by sowing seeds of success"

Building on the Past

Maggie Street Community Development Corporation (MSCDC) is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt Alabama nonprofit corporation and is located in the heart of Centennial Hill, a historic community in Montgomery, Alabama whose residents were among the most affluent and influential; namely, civil rights pioneers Mrs. Johnnie Carr, Ms. Aurelia Eliscera Shines Browder and Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr.

Since founding, MSCDC has vigorously been involved in a wide range of activities including home renovations in underserved communities, after school youth programs, and hosting public events with other community stakeholders about civic engagement, equitable community development, housing summits, heirs property and wills clinics and elder fraud abuse prevention workshops with the support of public and private funding as well as donations.

Moving Towards the Future

MSCDC will continue its activities in the following areas:
  • Home and community revitalization thereby increasing equity and reducing crime
  • Intergenerational civic and equitable community development education and participation
  • Participatory community events and workshops about heirs property, providing access to free legal assistance for wills, life planning documents such as powers of attorney, estate planning and elder fraud education and prevention.
  • Youth development opportunities: after-school programs, music camps, youth leadership development, ACT/SAT/GED assistance and tutorials, computer and AI literacy

MSCDC will continue to engage a multi-generational educational approach toward community engagement to enable and empower future generations to be involved in creating and providing access to opportunities as well as encourage children’s development.
